Young Stars: David Archuleta and Miley Cyrus

Young stars are offering hope for the future, with a long overdue dose of positivity. David Archuleta, possibly...probably the next America Idol, is a great example of this. His performance of songs like "Imagine" and "Angels", and his attitude in general shows us he was already thinking about "giving back" even before the American Idol producers told him he had to for "Idol Gives Back" night. He chose to sing "Another Day in Paradise" partly, he said, "because it brings attention to those around the world who have nothing", and also sang one of his favorite songs John Farnham's "You're the Voice" with the line "we're all someone's daughter, we're all someone's son/how long can we look at each other through the barrel of a gun?" David Archuleta seems to understand the positive influence, and power popular music can have.

It is easy to dismiss Miley Cyrus as a marketing concoction of Disney and her father...however, she has real talent. It has been a long time since a pop star has received media criticism for being "too nice", but if you ask me, Miley Cyrus has been nothing but a breath of fresh air! Miley Cyrus, perhaps the top pop star in the world today, began her rise to fame when she was cast as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana on the hit Disney Show "Hannah Montana." The show grew it's young fan base, and the many catchy Hannah Montana songs helped Miley Cyrus on her way to super stardom. Moving beyond the Hannah Montana persona, Miley Cyrus began recording her own albums and writing her own songs under her birth name Destiny Hope Cyrus in 2007. Miley Cyrus then embarked on the enormously popular "Best of Both Worlds Tour." The rise of Miley Cyrus' popularity to new heights seemed to coincide with here appearance on American Idol 7's "Idol Gives Back" episode where she performed "See You Again." Other popular Miley Cyrus hits include "Start All Over", "Ready, Set, Don't Go" (a duet with her father Billy Ray Cyrus), and "7 Things." Miley Cyrus is also a host of the "Miley and Mandy Show" which can be seen on the youtube website. Recently, Miley Cyrus has been the subject of controversy, most notably regarding a photo shoot she did for Vanity Fair magazine. For some reason the American mass media went berserk about the supposed Miley Cyrus photo scandal, even though the nation was at war, and on the brink of financial calamity. Josiah Leming is the most famous, and talented American Idol contestant not to make it to the later rounds of the show. In the early stages of the show, Josiah seemingly had triumphed over homelessness (the American Idol producers portrayed his as a drifter living out of his car), and seemed poised to be a major factor in the competition. Josiah Leming was perhaps unjustly booted off of American Idol by the judges, before Josiah got a chance to compete as one of the top 24. Subsequently, Simon Cowell has said that he personally wanted to put Josiah Leming through, but was overruled by the other two judges, Randy Jackson, and Paul Abdul. At the time, Simon no doubt told Randy that it would be his dubious task to break the news to Josiah, since he was one of the judges behind the booting. "Sorry, dawg, ya didn't make it," Randy told Josiah Leming. Many fans worried that Josiah would have to go back to living in his car after Randy and Paula sent him packing. Fortunately however, Josiah Leming has had much success on the internet at myspace and VFTW, and it has been reported that Josiah Leming recently signed a record deal with Warner Bros.
